Event Description
SAVE THE DATE – January 21, 2010 Greater Statesville Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet and Awards Night Presented by ![]() A night like no other! Featuring Keynote Speaker: DAN GEDIMAN, Executive Producer of ’This I Believe’. “We hardly need to be reminded that we are living in an age of confusion. A lot of us have traded in our beliefs for bitterness and cynicism, or for a heavy package of despair, or even a quivering portion of hysteria. Opinions can be picked up cheap in the marketplace, while such commodities as courage and fortitude and faith are in alarmingly short supply.” We would be hard pressed to put the words down on paper that better describe 2009. But these words were actually penned be journalist Edward R. Murrow in 1951. This was the beginning of his program, “This I Believe”. Each day, Americans gathered by their radios to hear compelling essays from the likes of Eleanor Roosevelt, Jackie Robinson, Helen Keller, and Harry Truman as well as corporate leaders, cab drivers, scientists, and secretaries—anyone able to distill into a few minutes the guiding principles by which they lived. These essayists’ words brought comfort and inspiration to a country worried about the Cold War, McCarthyism, and racial division. In reviving This I Believe, executive producer Dan Gediman says, “The goal is not to persuade Americans to agree on the same beliefs. Rather, the hope is to encourage people to begin the much more difficult task of developing respect for beliefs different from their own.” Our Annual Meeting is the single most important meeting of the year. We celebrate our successes, discuss ambitions for the upcoming year and, most importantly, celebrate organizations and individuals that have gone well above the norm to make this place an incredible community in which to live, work and play. We will recognize: Farmer of the Year Ambassador of the Year Industry of the Year Mid-Large Business of the Year – click here to submit nomination And the highest award annually bestowed Citizen of the Year – click here to submit nomination | ||||
